Periodic Table of Elements and puns....I crack myself up.

I got this poster/wrapping paper sheet at a paper store at Bridgeport Shopping Center in Tualatin not too long ago with the idea of using it for some card backgrounds and science themed sentiments.  I didn't have any, but I had an idea it just NEEDED to be made into cards.

So the last few days I've been cutting the paper and pondering ideas and you know how I love puns, so I Googled Science puns and found pages of groaners.  These were some of my favs...

~

I'm not sure if any of these will go into my box for OWH, but someone probably has a kid going back to school in science, right?  Or someone out there just loves puns as much as I do.  I hope they made you smile, or snicker or just groan.  Leave me a comment if you did.  Then I'll know I've done my job.  :)

Summer card making...And didn't someone say something about a gratefulness challenge?

I've been busy going through my card stock and design paper and organizing my embellishments and other stuff in my craft space and decided this great stamp needed to be put on a card.  That reminded me I had this great Far East Stack by DCWV that I had never cracked open.  Then I ran across this lovely gold cord in my stash and it just all came together in this Thank You card.  And wouldn't you know it, there is a challenge on the OWH site that asked for a gratefulness card, so how perfect is that?  There will be a few of these in my box of cards I'm getting together for OWH to mail soon.

These cute little banner flags were punch outs from a pack of paper I was gifted recently at our East Woods Presbyterian Church card making party.  One of the fun things we do is bring things we have in our stash that we are tired of, or just haven't used, and put it on the table for everyone else to choose from.  So I snagged this pack.  It's fun to get inspiration with NEW STUFF!  I was able to make 2 of these for my box.  Yay.

Any Hero Cards...

With the idea of making a new batch of Any Hero Cards, I went through my embellishment drawer and I came up with these.  It's a great way to use up scraps and I found this great box of metal "dog tags" that I have had absolutely forever.  They came in a box with a long chain so that you could pair words together and make a necklace with different sentiments.  I always thought they would be great on Any Hero cards, so I paired up different words that would fit.

This one says "read now."

"sound bite"

I have a slug of others and will try to make more.  They work well on the little chain, so if the service person decides to take it off the card, they can have a cute memento or key chain.  They do not work as cards they can send home because of the lumpiness of the chain.  I've thought perhaps I might get some thin silver cord and use that and maybe those would go through the mail OK, but I'm still working on that idea.  I think they are so cute.

This one uses military phonetic stickers Sandy gave me last year in a pack of goodies.  They are dwindling and I LOVE them.  Thanks again, Sandy.

I love this sketch.  It's one from Operation Write Home, and I thought punching out the stars in the sentiment circle to allow the dark blue to show through underneath was a nice touch.  And those are the very last of those nice gold stick on stars I had.  Time to hit Peddler's Pack again.  Good thing it's not in Nevada.  LOL.

I love the sentiment on this one.

(I stole it from someone on the Operation Write Home FB page.  She stole it too.)

July Stampin' Up Class with Gail!

Last month we had our monthly Stampin' Up Card Making class with Tracy and who should be in town and be able to come but our dear friend Gail Heike!  She moved to southern California last year and I have missed her dearly.  It was great to see her again.

Here are the cards we made that day...

Great idea for Washi Tape.

I really like this one and will probably make some more with those flower punches I have.

We always have a good time crafting together.

Traveling and missing my craft table...

Well, with vacations and card parties and other stuff, it's been awhile since I've posted, but I've been busy.  The last few weeks I've managed to get in some great card making sessions too.  So I wanted to post some of my latest.

With the draw down overseas, we are being asked to submit fewer cards, but have been challenged to make even better cards, just not more.  I have found that making fewer cards per kit has really stretched me and help me grow.  I think I was getting into a kind of slump doing multiples of the same cards and it was becoming more of a chore than a fun thing to do. So yay for that.  And I think the trips we have taken this summer got me away from my craft table for stretches of time that rekindled my desire to create again.  Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right?  :)

Here is a shot from one of our trips....Hawaii!  Oh yeah, umbrella drinks and trade winds.  Ahhhh.

One of our trips this summer was to Vegas to visit Dad and Geoff...and of course, where I indulged myself at my very favorite stamp store:  Viva Las Vegas Stamps.  It's on line too, so you can shop there, even if you don't get to Vegas.  But a trip to the store is a must.  It looks so unassuming on the outside, but it is huge inside and has thousands of stamps.  Wheeee.  http://www.vlvstamps.com

Now, without further ado, I'll slap some cards up here.

The DP for this one came in a great stack by DCWV called Tattered Time.
I think it pairs wonderfully with the Gears image stamp that I got at Viva Las Vegas Stamps.  (Pretty cool huh?)
